Highlighter, love it or hate it. It’s the new craze in the beauty world. Strobing, contouring, you name it. You’ll need a highlighter. As a novice in this department, I went on a long and painstaking trip to Selfridges to learn the tricks of the trade.
In MAC, I really did fall, head over heals, completely and utterly, in love with ‘Soft and Gentle’. It was mine in minutes.
I’ve been highlighting and sculpting for a few months now, but didn’t want to write a review without having anything else to compare it to. I have since bought an Uban Decay set, as well as a cheapo MUA highlight fix, but I can whole-heartedly admit that MAC have truly outdone themselves, sweeping the floor clean of any competition.
The colour is shown pretty accurately on the photos above: ‘Soft and Gentle’ has more of a bronzy tone to it than some of MAC’s other highlighters, but if you want something to compliment your contour, this shade is perfect. With fairly pale skin, I thought it would just make me look like a clown with brown cheeks (and I guess if I hadn’t practised strobing/contouring previously, I might have done), but surprisingly, it really compliments my skin tone. I usually pair it with either a Benefit Hoola Bronzer, or my new (post-to-come) Urban Decay Flushed set. The highlighter stays true to its online description (here), which states its peachy undertones. Just love it, love it, love it!
I really cannot fault it, honest. It’s long wearing, pigmented without looking fake, and is a god-damn sight better than anything I’ve tried since. (Sorry MUA!). It’s a true investment at £24, but if you want a staple highlighter to last you a good while, it’s most definitely worth it!
